Wig’s Word of God Today 2-25-2011
Again crowds gathered around Him and, as was His custom, He again taught them. Mark 10:1b
Sirach 6:5-17, Psalm 119:12, 16, 18, 27, 34, 35 & Mark 10:1-12
The Book of Sirach is known as a book of Ethical Teachings and Biblical Scholars agree that the teachings are applicable to all persons and all ages of life; parents and children, husbands and wives, the rich and the poor, i.e.; Humanity. It is a book describing many rules of courtesy and politeness and gives instruction for the duties of mankind to live in harmony giving God all the glory. It is a beautiful book of truths and if you have never really sat down and read it then your in for a treat. The verse studied today gives instruction on finding friends and how to keep them. “When you gain a friend, first test him, and be not too ready to trust him.” Sirach 6:7 Further describing what a faithful friend will be; “A faithful friend is a sturdy shelter; he who finds one finds a treasure. A faithful friend is beyond price, no sum can balance his worth. A faithful friend is a life-saving remedy, such as he who fears God finds; For he who fears God behaves accordingly, and his friend will be like himself.” Sirach 6:14-17
When we find a faithful friend, we find a friend who loves his love of Christ Jesus and will be there for you anytime, anyplace and anywhere. Today I am bringing my homemade quiche to a prayer breakfast that is affectionately called a “Prayer Muffin” where every Friday about 100 men come together to talk about their love of Christ. Many of these men I have come to know as a friend I have been describing. Men of honor and respect who want nothing more than to seek faith, hope, charity and love. They are a life-saving remedy filled with the Spirit of God. We learn from one another and seek to bear witness to the Gospel of Christ Jesus.. Today’s study of Mark specifically talks about Jesus’ reaction to questions about divorce. Jesus is obviously against divorce and I think everyone would agree that if God’s not in it, the marriage most likely won’t survive. Jesus reminds us when we get married we become one in mind, body and flesh in God. I proclaim with confidence I am One with my spouse in all things and proudly call her my Soul Mate in Christ Jesus. Amen.
So we ask in prayer: Heavenly Father, today we pray for all friendships and marriages to be based on Truth. We pray Your Son will always be the Teacher of Choice when it come to learning about friends and life. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.
God Bless,
