Wig’s Word of God Today 12-18-2010
Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will raise up a righteous shoot to David; As king he shall reign and govern wisely, he shall do what is just and right in the land. Jeremiah 23:5
Jeremiah 23:5-8, Psalm 72:1-2, 12-13, 18-19 & Matthew 1:18-25
The foretelling of God’s Only Son came in many areas throughout the Old Testament as Jeremiah details here to “raise up a righteous shoot to David;” Jesus Christ. I have often dreamed of living in the days of old as a Prophet who listens to God’s voice through writing, fasting and prayer. In many ways, we each have a responsibility to proclaim the “Good News” of Christ just as the Prophets of old did thousands of years ago. Even before Christ was born, God presented His Plan to the Prophets to prepare His People for the coming of Jesus. We are responsible now to proclaim His Second Coming living as the eyes, hands and feet of the Lord.
People will see this in you and begin to ask you questions to help them in their lives. Last night at a Christmas party, the husband of a fellow teacher approached me for the first time ever and asked “Is it Okay to hold back giving ten percent to God when you are having financial difficulties?” Today more then ever, people everywhere are experiencing financial hardships and will begin to ask themselves “should I stop giving to God when times are so tough?” As I explained to my fellow teacher’s husband, “God will test you in many situations in your life. These are the times when you should give more to the Lord and God will abundantly shine His Graces on you.” I finished by telling him God understands when you withhold giving to the church for financial difficulties but consider what areas of your life can you change to give more to God each time you get paid. My wife added, “Substitute your giving with work for the Lord. Visit the sick, console the elderly or volunteer in a homeless shelter.” We give more to the Lord when we stop and think how to love our love of Christ by any means possible, be it giving all we have financially or physically. As Mother Teresa put it, “It’s between you and God anyway.”
And so we pray: Heaven Father, we pray today for those who are experiencing financial difficulties in the Season of Your Son’s Birth. We pray You guide us to understand how to give even when we have no money to give by being an example in our talents and our time. In Jesus Name we pray. Amen.

Romans 8:28
He Named the Child Jesus
A Shoot of Righteousness
Foretold by the Lord
Came to save us from sin
His Blood on a Cross implored
The lowly and poor He kisses
Each and every cry He hears
Thankful to the Lord of the Heavens
Be joyous for each and every fear
Afraid he was told not to be
The Angel whispered so graciously
Mary is with child by the Spirit of God
Joseph agreed and named the boy for Humanity
As the Angel instructed
He Named the child Jesus
Sins He will save for mankind’s need
Proved by the Blood for us all to heed
