Wig’s Word of God Today 5-1-2011
All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their property and possessions and divide them among all according to each one’s need. Acts 2:44-45
Although you have not seen Him you love Him; even though you do not see Him now yet believe in Him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy, as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls. 1 Peter 1:8-9
Peace be with you. As the Father has sent Me, so I send you. John 20:21b
Acts 2:42-47, Psalm 118, 1 Peter 1:3-9 & John 20:19-31
I like the idea of people coming together for a common goal of harmony by selling their property and possessions and dividing them amongst everyone according to their needs while Glorifying the Father in all things to accomplish peace, faith and love. We learn in the close of Chapter 2 in Acts the band of Christians who were following the Apostle’s teaching of Christ embraced each other in a community centered around the Eucharist of breaking of the Bread but as importantly they helped one another as needed by putting forth efforts financially for each who were less fortunate than some.
This work transformed into a faith guided by the Holy Spirit to bring about a New Birth by baptism of living a life of complete surrender to the New Covenant Teachings of Christ Jesus to ultimately experience the Salvation promised by Him in the end time. The First letter to Peter describes our gift and call from Baptism to lead a life surrendered to the faith, charity and love taught by Jesus in His Gospel for the Redemption of Humanity from sin. With over 2000 years behind us of following one interpretation after another of all areas of Scripture, I would think most agree the New Covenant of Love brought to mankind by Christ is a way filled with peace instead of fighting, joy instead of worry and love instead of hate and succumbs mankind to a mandate of living each of His Words with zealous enjoyment and love.
We learn why people for centuries if not a millennium or two have called us Thomas’ doubting today by the witness of the Apostles seeing Jesus without Thomas the first time and then Thomas being told by Jesus, “put your finger here and see My hands, and bring your hand and put it into My side, and do not be unbelieving, but believe,” (see John 20:27) during the second visit of Christ into the locked Upper Room. I have to admit I was a doubting Thomas who wished to live life only by the terms of my selfish ways but there comes a moment in your life where you begin to embrace Truth no matter what the circumstance or situation is you are living by your actions each day in practice, prayer and proclamation. If embracing the Truth happens to be later in your life say after kids, divorces and family breakups, I would emphatically implore each of you to be steadfast in your prayer and fasting for the reconcilement of forgiveness to occur.
Sometimes we leave things a mess when we journey to seek the pleasures of self in countless ways of indulgence. It’s hard to admit losing the opportunity of praying with your kids as they grew up or saving a relationship you left. I submit I did lose many myself but I refuse to allow my life to be inactive for His Glory and I will seek holiness by my actions in faith, charity and love. I submit myself to being told I am a “strong” Christian and pray we all live our love of loving Christ as Paul describes in Philippians 3:13-15. “Brothers, I for my part do not consider myself to have taken possession. Just one thing: forgetting what lies behind but straining forward to what lies ahead, I continue my pursuit toward the goal, the prize of God’s upward calling, in Christ Jesus. Let us, then, who are “perfectly mature” adopt this attitude. And if you have a different attitude, this too God will reveal to you.”
So we ask in prayer: Heavenly King and Mighty Father, we worship You and pray today for the binding of community to practice Your Son’s call to charity. We pray today by our actions all can see You through us. We pray today we are never doubting but ever confident in Your Word to live for all eternity to always exclaim “My Lord and my God!” We pray this in the Name You allow to sit at Your Right hand, Jesus Christ. Amen.
God Bless,
